On 2nd September 2020 – The Federation of Merchants’ Association (FMAS), Heartland Enterprise Centre Singapore (HECS) and Singapore Press Holdings’ Chinese Media Group (CMG) signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to drive heartland rejuvenation initiatives and to help neighborhood enterprises and hawkers sustain their businesses through digitalization efforts such as digital payments and e-commerce.
CMG will co-organize and promote seminars and awards that will highlight success stories of enterprises and hawkers whose businesses have digitalized, capitalizing on its journalistic insights and extensive industry network. These will include Hawkers Awards, Precinct Enterprise Star Awards, and Singapore Heartland Enterprise Star Awards. As part of these efforts, CMG will create content across its media platforms to promote specially curated heartland tours that will be developed by the HECS and partners. These tours aim to drive footfall to the heartlands and boost the businesses of its merchants and hawkers.
Mr Yeo Hiang Meng, President of Federation of Merchants Association of Singapore explained: “We hope that through this collaboration, which rides on CMG’s close-knit relationship with heartland SMEs and hawkers, we can reach out to them to look at various issues that affect their survivability such as business succession and transformation of business model. We also hope this will allow CMG’s vast readership to have a better understanding of our rich multi-faceted community and food culture.”
Mr Kwek Theng Swee, Chairman of the Heartland Enterprise Centre Singapore, said: “HECS hopes that by promoting heartland tours with the Chinese Media Group, we can let Singaporeans rediscover the unique culture, interesting attractions and great food in each neighborhood, and let these rediscoveries enrich our lives.”
Ms Lee Huay Leng, Head of CMG, SPH, said: “CMG has always kept its fingers on the pulse of Singaporeans, and is honoured to play a role in this collaboration that will help our local businesses together with FMAS and HECS. Neighborhood merchants are an integral part of Singaporeans’ daily lives and are critical contributors to the economy. We look forward to leveraging our network to assist the heartland enterprises and hawkers to keep their businesses and neighborhoods vibrant and thriving.”
